In the United States, enfranchisement is not required for seminaries to award theology AA, BA, MA, or Ph.D degrees. A religious degree (AA, BA, MA, or Ph.D) is validated in the United States. Institutes offering purely spiritual degrees are exempt from certifying prerequisites in many provinces, subject to particular rules in each area.
